KATHMANDU, Nepal- In a bid to control and combat illegal activities including killing, poaching of animals in the Sagarmatha national Park area the SNP Office and Nepal Army are going to set up Joint Sanction Unit at the SNP area.

Earlier the administrations of both government agencies   used to input records of such incidents and events separately on their own format. But after establishment of the new joint units all such records will be complied under the one.

Earlier due to separate mechanism, officials found it hard and problematic to work with even the data of the offices were also different. But officials are optimistic about straightforward works henceforth.

Since the single mechanism help both the offices work jointly and in data management it would be easier to work and to formulate new plans in combating the crimes and illegal activities in the area, opined Ram Chandra Kandel, Chief Conservation Officer at the SNP.

Officers from both the offices have been selected and positioned at the new unit’s office that is now established at SNP office premises.

According to the officials, poachers mainly focus on illegal killing and poaching of Himalayan musk deer, Thar, Red Panda and Snow Leopard in the SNP area apart from smuggling medicinal herbs and doing other illegal activities.
