63rd Mt. Annapurna ascent day celebrated

KATHMANDU, Nepal- Nepal Mountaineering Association, Pokhara branch has celebrated the 63rd anniversary of first ascent of Mount Annapurna by organizing various programmes in Pokhara.

At the programme, the NMA Pokhara has felicitated two Sherpa brothers who climbed all peaks above 8000 meters across the world.

Nigma and Changdawa Sherpa are brothers who successfully climbed all the 14 eight thousanders in the world. The Sherpa duo has climbed the 8091 meters high Mt. Annapurna successfully on 2010 and 2012 respectively.

During the programme it is informed that Changdawa have successfully climbed various peaks in Nepal, Pakistan and Tibet for 22 times. He had climbed Board Paki, Nanga Parbat, G 1 and G2, K2 among other peaks in Pakistan.

He is the successful mountaineer who climbed the world’s highest Mount Everest for three times, Mt. Makalu. Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Kanchenjunga among others peaks in Nepal.

Sherpa siblings were felicitated at the programme organised on Monday with the letter of appreciation and ‘Khada’, said the organizer NMA Pokhara in a press statement issued on Wednesday.

On the occasion, Ang Shering Sherpa, former president of NMA, President of International Mountain Meseum Pokhara branch Khadga Bahadur Ranabhat among other mountaineering experts and climbers have expressed their views to conserve and save the mountains. “For the sustainable mountaineering tourism conservation of mountains is the must,” speakers said in the programme.
