(English) Power supply gives beams of light to Namche folks

KATHMANDU, Nepal–Dwellers of Namche and Khumjung in Khumbu valley, who were compelled to live in the dark for four months due to disruption in power supply will no more have to suffer from blackout, thanks to the regular power supply that resumed from Saturday.

With the maintenance of the Thame Hydropower Project that was closed since May 28 citing maintenance, villagers will no longer have to suffer hard.

As many as 800 households in 13 VDCs in the district would be benefitted after the power supply. However, the task of capacity increase could not be carried out due to delay in equipments supply.

Telephone services, drinking water supply and internet including other facilities have been resumed with the regular supply of power”, today’s Nagrik news quoted a local as saying.

The hydropower project with 630 kilowatt capacity was developed 13 years ago with the Austrian government´s Rs 180 million financial assistance.
