KATHMANDU, Nepal–Did you felt alone while travelling Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) last year? However, you should not have to feel missing from your near and dear ones for a single moment henceforth as internet connectivity will keep you in touch with them round the clock, thanks to service provider Nepal Telecom and the internet connectivity service as it has finally reached such mountainous heights for the first time in Nepal.

Tourists and locals at ABC have started enjoying the services for the last couple of days. According to a report published in Nepali National daily Kantipur, four hotels– Annapurna Century, Annapurna Guest House, Paraguide Garden and Snowland Hotels– operating at the Base Camp have already started using Wi-Fi connectivity.

“All four hotels have installed 256 kilobits/second internet connectivity” Rajesh Regmi, sales chief at Nepal Telecom Pokhara was quoted by the daily. The service is reportedly lauded by trekkers and locals who had tough time sharing instant message just two months ago.

Internet connectivity at ABC, located at an altitude of 4,130 meters, was possible through NTSYAT technology.

Travel/tourism expert said to be able to connect the peak area has to be taken as a great achievement. Regmi informed that their aim was helping the locals and trekkers get connected.

According to hotel entrepreneurs in Base Camp, foreign tourists are impressed to find internet connectivity when they check into the rooms.
