KATHMANDU, Nepal – With the theme to conserve Chure region and take collective action to conserve the fragile ecosystem of the country,  the 8th National Conservation Day was observed in the capital, Kathmandu.

The Chure region has been facing immense threats and pressure including deforestation and forest encroachment. The government has established Chure Terai Madesh Conservation Development Committee to conserve the Chure of Nepal.

On this occasion, several individuals and organizations were facilitated for their exemplary contribution to conservation in Nepal.

The Government of Nepal declared 23 September as National Conservation Day in 2008 in memory of the Conservation Heroes who lost their lives in a tragic helicopter accident on 23 September 2006 in Ghunsa of Kangchenjunga.

Similarly, significant publications including Nepal’s National Biodiversity Strategy Action Plan 2014-2020 were also launched on the occasion.

A short drama was demonstrated by students from a local college while Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NFEJ) had presented a video documentary.
