(English) WWF conservation awards announced

conservation awardsKATHMANDU, Nepal –Two organizations and four individuals who made significant contribution to safeguard Nepal’s rich biodiversity have been awarded with Abraham Conservation Awards, Matthew Preece & Yeshi Choden Lama Young Conservation Leader Award and WWF Media Conservation Award.

Shankarnagar Ban Bihar and Research Centre from Butwal and Community Forest Coordination Committee from Kailali were honored under the Abraham Conservation Awards while Battalion Commander of Nandabox Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Chakra Bahadur Shah, and Pushkal Bahadur Bam, a social mobilizer and conservationist, were provided awards under the individual category.

Likewise, Mr. Sagar Pandit, journalist at Naya Patrika, was awarded with the WWF Media Conservation Award  and Mr. Arjun Kurmi, Chairmperson of Green Youth of Lumbini, was awarded with the Matthew Preece & Yeshi Choden Lama Young Conservation Leader Award.

They were honored for their outstanding feats in the field of conservation in areas such as natural resource management, biodiversity protection, social mobilization and journalism.

The award, set up to honor the conservation heroes who lost their lives in the tragic helicopter accident in Ghunsa, Kangchenjunga in 2006 carries a purse of NRs. 25,000 for individuals and NRs. 50,000 for organizations.

The Conservation Awards are offered to organizations and individuals to honor their outstanding feats in the field of conservation in areas such as natural resource management, biodiversity protection, social mobilization and journalism.
