immigration-office-in-nepalKATHMANDU, Nepal–With the department, and concerned agencies under it, going digital, Immigration Department under the Home Ministry has been transformed radically in the recent days. The Department has spent 10 million for the digital record for using technology in eight offices at Kodari, Kakarbhitta, Birgunj, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Mohna (Dhangadi), Gaddachowki including the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) to make record of passport-holders entering and leaving Nepal both to air and land route.

All eight immigration offices TIA have been connected to the central data center which will be curbed from the office of the department’s director general.

It is believed that the digital system will help control smuggling of foreign currency, arms trafficking, human trafficking and other trans-national crimes through abuse of Nepali passports, citizenship certificates, visa, and travel documents.

Kenvin John Hodges, who had came Nepal using fake passport after committing a crime in America, was recently held by applying this technology. The reform program started in April has come into full implementation from the third week of July, according to the department source.
