(English) UIAA meeting focuses on mountain environment, climbing

KATHMANDU, Nepal–The general assembly of International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) being held at Flagstaff, Arizona will focus on mountain environment, climbing and mountaineering ethics, access to nature, mountaineering expeditions, training standards.

The meeting will discuss on youth climbing and mountaineering mobilisation, ice climbing development, UIAA safety standards, medical and anti-doping, along with other mountain related issues. The meeting is being organized

A joint Nepali team of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) is taking part at the meeting to be held till October 18.

NMA President Ang Tshering Sherpa, First Vice President Santa Bir Lama, Central Executive Board Member Pemba Dorje Sherpa, and Secretary Suresh Man Shrestha and Under Secretary Ram Prasad Sapkota from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), are jointly representing Nepal in the assembly.

Sherpa who is also an Honorary Member of UIAA will give a presentation focusing on mountain, cultural and other tourism products of Nepal.

NMA is also proposing the general assembly for an approval to hold UIAA General Assembly 2016 in Kathmandu.

During the meeting, representative from Tourism Ministry will give a presentation on the government’s plans and policies for the development of mountain tourism in Nepal.
