KATHMANDU, Nepal–The Bhaktapur District Court on Wednesday convicted Charles Sobhraj of the murder of Laurent A Carrere, a Canadian national.

A bench of Justice Nagendra Lal Karna sentenced Sobhraj also known as “bikini killer” to life imprisonment with confiscation of his properties.

The serial killer was produced before the court in connection with the murder of the Canadian backpacker in 1975. The case was revived in March last year.

Sobhraj is serving life term since 2003 at the Central Jail, Kathmandu for the murder of Connie Jo Bronzich, an American tourist. Connie was murdered just two days after the murder of the Canadian backpacker.

Before the case was filed, Sobhraj in his statement to the police had admitted that he was in Nepal at the time of murder. He had also admitted that he knew Carrere and Connie, who had been staying in a lodge in Kathmandu.

The case was lodged by Gokarna Bahadur Karki, the then chief of Chitapol Village in Bhaktapur, on December 21, 1975.
