(English) Safety concerns addressed, CAAAN writes to European Union
KATHMANDU, Nepal–Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the sole aviation regulatory body in the country formally wrote to the European Union (EU) informing the latter that it has addressed most of the safety concerns raised by the EU.
The letter focuses on status of implementation of recommendations made during EU onsite observation, current list of air operator certificate (AOC) holders, operation specification of AOC holders and status of accident investigation recommendations from 2009.
The aviation authority body wrote to EU five days before the deadline set for Nepal to submit its progress report on aviation safety and operations to the EU Air Safety Committee.
Stating that it would forward the supporting documents via mail as soon as possible, CAAN in its two-page letter said that it made significant progress on audit findings of International Civil Aviation Organization.
According to CAAN, most of the documents will be forwarded to EU by Sunday evening. Officials at the CAAN are reportedly doing homework to response EU on September 24.
The team from Brussels would hold a video conference with senior CAAN officials at EU country office in Kathmandu to conform their claims on curative measures taken in aviation sector, it is learnt.
In a letter, CAAN said it addressed significant safety concerns raised by International Civil Aviation Organization over country’s fragile condition on flight safety and standards.
CAAN has already informed ICAO that it applied five-phase modality to issue new AOC.
