(English) World Peace Pagoda on verge of collapse!

pokharaKATHMANDU, Nepal–World Peace Pagoda, a popular tourist destination in Pokhara of western Nepal is on the verge of collapse a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall hit its foundation.

International tourists have been banned to visit the pagoda that stands at Pamdibhumdi VDC of the district.

Prakashman Gubhaju of the World Peace Pagoda Committee, committee said human mobility has been restricted keeping in view that any untoward incident may happen at any time.

Only on Tuesday, A landslide near the pagoda completely destroyed a restaurant erected on the bank of Few lake, resulting into the death of three people with one still missing.

The open area between the landslide and the pagoda is only two meters wide.

The pagoda, which is eight kilometers west from Pokhara, attracts hundreds of tourists from across the world every day. Annapurna, Machhapuchchhre and Dhawalagiri peaks could be seen from the Pagoda which is famous  to catch a panoramic view of Pokhara city from there. When the weather is clear, they can also see.

According to report published in Nagrik daily tourism entrepreneurs have also warned the foreign tourists to cancel their schedule trip to Pagoda keeping in view the probable calamity in the area which is reportedly becoming  further fragile by incessant rainfall over the couple of days.

The pagoda was built by Japanese monkswith the assist of the local people of Pokhara at the costs of Rs 50 million. It took eight years to complete the pagoda.
