KATHMANDU, Nepal–With flights cancelled for six consecutive days following adverse weather, a large number of foreign tourists have remained stranded in Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla, Solukhumbu.

Airlines operating flights to Lukla said visibility was poor in the area because of thick fog and heavy rainfall. According to locals, about one hundred and fifty foreign tourists have been left in the lurch at the Lukla-based Tenjing Hilary Airport. As many as 100 tourist guides are also said to be in Lukla and the surrounding areas.

The stranded tourists have been waiting for planes to leave the district for the capital city.

Many of them have complained that they had already booked tickets for the international flights. National News Agency (RSS), quoting local entrepreneurs Sonam Sherpa as saying reported that the supply of food and other daily commodities has been affected due to the flight cancellations.

Tara Airlines, Sita Airlines, Nepal Airlines and Simrik Airlines operate flights to and from Lukla.

Businessmen at Khumbu area are worried due to flights disruption during season. They are  accusing the government of not being serious about the problems the tourists and tourism entrepreneurs were facing.
