KATHMANDU, Nepal–The Seven Summits Women Team made it to the summit of Mt Denali, the highest peak in the North American continent on 24 Jun 2014 at 1:45 pm local time.

Four members Chunu Shrestha, Asha Kumari Singh, Nimdoma Sherpa and Pema Diki Sherpa along with camera person Ang Tshering Lama went for the mountain. They waved the glorious Nepali flag atop 6194 m mountain.

“It’s foggy here but it’s great being here,” seven summits women in its release sent to Nepal Mountain Focus states quoting team leader Shailee Basnet as saying over satellite phone from the summit.

Members of the team–Pujan Acharya, Maya Gurung and Shailee Basnet could not continue with the climb because of health issues and logistics management.

Shailee, the team’s coordinator shared, “It’s a very proud moment for us. Weather seems to be
major challenge in this mountain. The team had to wait for five days at Camp 14 (14000 feet) and even on the day of summit, they faced wind and snow causing low visibility.”
Following the climb, the team will be engaged in high profile international events.

As part of the program, the team will be engaged in a week-long tour organized by US State Department. The team will have high profile meetings at government level and media interaction in Washington DC and Los Angeles.

This is the sixth mountain of the 7 summits mission. The team will go for the last climb Mt Vinson Massif in Antarctica this December. This will mark the world’s first women team completing the 7 summits mission. The summiteers will be back from the climb in a few days time.
