(English) Tourist Police Unit set up at Ghorepani

ghorepani-poon-hill-trekKATHMANDU, Nepal–Aiming to provide security of the tourists visiting the Ghorepani area, the main destination of the Annapurna trekking route, a Tourist Police Unit has been established at Ghorepani of Ghar VDC in Myagdi district in the Dhawalagiri zone of northern-central Nepal.

The unit will also address the problems of tourists besides supporting them. Ghorepani lies on a major trail linking several other villages as well as the Annapurna Base Camp.

Likewise, trained human resources have been managed at the post for the same; National News Agency RSS reported quoting Deputy Superintendent of Police, Janardan GC.

According to GC, the unit will keep records of tourists and carry out search for the stolen properties belonging to tourists besides offering counseling to them.

The first ever Tourist Police Unit in the district has seven quotas, a Sub-Inspector and a police head constable have now been assigned at the unit. Around 30,000 foreign tourists visit the Ghorepani every year.
