KATHMANDU, Nepal–The government has issued a death/missing certificate for West Bengal mountaineer Chhanda Gayen who went missing during an expedition on Mt. Kanchenjunga, last month.

The government issues death/missing certificate for mountaineers who go missing for three days while on expeditions.

Chhanda’s brother Jyotimoy Gayen collected the certificate on Friday, according to the Tourism Ministry.

Chhanda, along with two of her Sherpas, went missing on May 20 on the Kanchenjunga West, also known as Mt Yulan Kang, the world’s third highest mountain peak near the Nepal-India-China triangle.

Chhanda and her accompanying Sherpas were swept away by an avalanche on May 19 after they fell 300 meters down into the crevasse.

Chhanda was the second civilian woman from the West Bengal state to scale Mount Everest.
