Republic Day being marked nationwide

KATHMANDU, Nepal–The 7th Republic Day is being observed with much fanfare across the country, Thursday. Today marks six years of the declaration of Nepal as a federal democratic republic. The first meeting of the Constituent Assembly formed after the election held in 2006/07 declared Nepal a federal, democratic republic on May 28, 2008 and since then the day is marked as Republic Day. Various national level programmes have been planned for three days on May 28, 29 and 30 to celebrate the day. President, the Vice President, the Prime Minister who is also the chairman of the Republic Day Program Main Committee, office-bearers of different constitutional bodies, leaders of political parties and high-ranking government officials are taking part at a special programme in the capital.
