KATHMANDU, Nepal–The government has decided to open 104 new peaks for mountaineering on Wednesday. “By opening such more new peaks, the government believes that mountaineering activities will be developed and promoted in smooth way,” states Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation ( MoCTCA) in a press statement.

Now, with the addition of 104 peaks, 310 mountains are open for mountaineering in Nepal.

The ministry also decided to promote mountains less than 5,800 meters as trekking peaks. Meanwhile, the Ministry decided to chuck out 16 mountains from the list of total mountains open for mountaineering.

“Revising the earlier list of peaks opened for climbing, 16 have been excluded for different reasons, including repetition and difficult climbing topography,” Joint Secretary Madhusudan Burlakoti said.
