KATHMANDU, Nepal– A leopard was shot dead on Saturday in Kapan in the northern outskirts of Kathmandu Valley, after it entered human settlement and attacked locals.

Police gunned down the big cat concealing near a private compound in a temple are since early morning. It had injured an elderly woman including a doctor involved in darting.

A police team was deployed to the site after a police control room received frantic calls from locals at 6 am. The wild animal, supposedly from the Shivapuri forest had attacked the woman in kitchen garden.

The police reached the site at 6:30am and later made District Forest Office and Central Zoo for process to take the wild cat under control. Teams from the DFO and the zoo reached the site at 11am. When experts tried to tranquillize the leopard, it attacked and injured a member.

When the situation went out of control, the police shot dead the big cat. There have been cases of leopards entering into human settlements in the latest days.
