TCC shuts TIMS counters at NTB


tims-permit-fee72KATHMANDU, Nepal–Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC) shut down Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) Card sales counter for Free Independent Tourists (FITs) situated in the premises of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) on Sunday morning.

More than 100 representatives of JTCC padlocked the counter at around 7 am, according to press release provided to NMF. The padlocking of TIMS counter at NTB is a part of weeklong protest announced by JTCC – a forum of more than 20 travel trade associations.

“To make sure that foreign tourists are not affected by the closure of counter at NTB, JTCC has asked FITs to take TIMS cards from TIMS Counter at TAAN Secretariat in Maligaun”, NTB states.

JTCC has been launching series of protest putting forth four-point demand before the government. Among others, the demand includes removal of Subash Nirola from the post of acting CEO of NTB to pave the way for early appointment of new CEO, independent audit of expenses made by NTB over the past five years, and institutional representation of private sector in the board of NTB.

On Friday, JTCC had organized an interaction with lawmakers of different political parties on their demands. At the program, lawmakers like Chham Bahadur Gurung, Ghanashyam Pun, Krishna Dhital, Kishor Singh Rathaur, Sita Giri, Gauri Oli and Mohan Singh Rathour, said as NTB has been established on the model of public private partnership it should work to uphold the public private partnership.
