KATHMANDU, Nepal–The 6th National Tourism Fair, scheduled to begin in Kathmandu from May 2, has been put off indefinitely. Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC), a forum of 19 travel trade associations, made it clear that it would boycott the fair. The tri-party meeting between the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC) held on Monday decided to postpone the fair until further notice. JTCC has claimed that NTB was organizing the fair without consulting with the private sector. Earlier, JTCC had submitted a four-point memorandum to MoCTCA. In the memorandum, JTCC had asked the ministry to put off the fair and appoint board members from private sector in NTB on recommendations of travel trade associations, among others. In the meantime, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) Bhim Acharya informed that the ministry would soon call a meeting to fix another date.
