Everest avalanche: Govt announces half million rupeese to bereaved families

KATHMANDU, Nepal–The government has decided to offer a financial assistance of Rs 500,000 each to the families of those killed in the avalanche at Mount Everest base camp on April 18.

Altogether 13 mountaineers had lost their lives while three are still missing in the incident.

During a programme held in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) Bhim Prasad Acharya informed government’s decision to offer Rs 500,000 each to the bereaved family of the fallen Sherpas.

He added efforts are on to search for those missing, adding mountaineering will resume after a week. He also claimed that there was no carelessness on part of the government in Everest avalanche.
