(English) Govt steep up preparation for 18th SAARC summit

KATHMANDU, Nepal– The government has stepped up preparations for the 18th South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit scheduled for November this year in Kathmandu.

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Wednesday held a meeting at his office in Singh Durbar with various concerned ministers to accelerate preparations for the summit.

On the occasion Prime Minister is learnt to have directed all concerned ministries to work a war footing.  “Since the Summit is major foreign policy event, all concerned ministries should now work a war footing,” the prime minister´s foreign policy advisor Dinesh Bhattarai quoted him as saying after emerging from meeting.

Prime Minister Koirala will head main steering committee while other several committees like finance, security, logistic, publicity, greeting, cleaning and others will be formed under ministers and senior government officials, it is learnt.

The 17th Summit was held in Addu City of Maldives in November, 2011.
