(English) ICC T20 World Cup: Dream debut for Nepal

KATHMANDU, Nepal–Nepal made a flying start in the ICC T20 World Cup, beating Hong Kong by 80 runs in its debut match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, Bangladesh, Sunday.

Nepal’s fielding limited Hong Kong to 69 runs in 17 overs. Shakti Gauchan and Basant Regmi claimed three wickets each, and Paras Khadka and Sompal Kami took two each.

Nepal’s Shakti Gauchan was awarded the man of the match. Captain Paras Khadka dedicated the success to the Nepali supporters.

The two teams had played against each other in the qualifying matches for the T20 World Cup held in the United Arab Emirates in November 2013 and Nepal had defeated Hong Kong by five wickets.

Nepal will play against host Bangladesh on 18 March and Afghanistan on 20 March, 2014 in its remaining matches at the same venue.

Nepal is matched alongside Hong Kong, hosts Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the group round in A.
