(English) Paragliding Championship kicks off

KATHMANDU, Nepal– Aiming to promote Nepal’s paragliding internationally, the 15th edition of Open Paragliding Championship has kicked off on Friday in Pokhara, also known for tourist hub city in the country.

The weeklong event also aims to promote Pokhara as an international destination of adventure tourism and the destination of airports.

Over 150 paragliders from two dozen countries, including European and Asian pilots are taking part in the Championship to run 5 March.

The paragliders will take off from Sarangkot hill and land at Khahare, on the banks of the Phewa Lake.

The championship contains various eight categories- Serial class, overall women, sports, overall Nepalese, best acrobatic display, spot landing, best raft landing and best tandem flight.

Some 100 paragliding pilots have registered their name for the annual event organised by Nepal Airsport Association (NAA).

The association is planning to organize Pre-World Cup 2015 in Pokhara.
