(English) Man killed in Thorong La Avalanche

KATHMANDU, Nepal– A man was reportedly killed and several other sustained severe injuries in an avalanche in Manang, the district beyond the Himalayas, Thursday morning.

Rishi Barnawal, 26, was killed while crossing the Thorong La pass, located 5,416 metres above sea level in the Damodar peak, north of Mt. Annapurna.

It is learnt that a team of seven people originally from terai arch region, south of Nepal had left for Manang from Mustang to scale Thorng La, the highest point on the Annapurna Circuit, a 300 km trek around the Annapurna Mountain range.

According to media reports, Barnawal’s body was found 1 km from Thorang la Bhangyang to another mountainous district Mustang and seriously injured Santosh Upadhayay (25) was rescued from nearby local shop.
