KATHMANDU, Nepal–Department of Environment (DoE) has sealed off factories, industries and business including the washing and coloring plants, among others, for carrying out activities that are hazardous to human health and result in environment pollution.

The Department was forced to take action against those factories and business houses as they failed to fulfill the minimum environmental standards.

During the course of monitoring, the Department sealed off dozen more factories including the washing and coloring plants, among others, for carrying out activities that pose harm to human health and result in environment pollution.

A team headed by the Director General of the Department, Dr Yubakdhoj GC, has recommended action against the factories operating at different places in the capital Kathmandu.

The Environment Conservation Act-2053 BS and the Environment Conservation Regulations-2054 BS have forbidden the operation of such factories and businesses causing adverse impact on environment and posing threat to human health.

The Department is also planning to monitor other factories found spoiling the environmental balance in the major cities of the country.
