Domestic tourism enjoy heyday during Dashain

KATHMANDU, Nepal- With the travel culture growing among the people during vacations, tourism sector during the festive season of Dashain earn much more than they expected from the domestic tourists.

Though there were no special packages for Dashain holidays, hoteliers at major domestic tourist destinations claim to have received quality number of domestic tourists during the festive season.

The major travellers during Dashain are people from Kathmandu who travel mostly to Pokhara-the beautiful city with lakes and mountains- and also to Chitwan- the city with Chitwan National Park, Sauraha- among others.

Hoteliers at Pokhara and Chitwan said they received around 80 per cent domestic tourists from Kathmandu Valley and around 20 per cent from Biratnagar, Dharan, Nepalgunj and other parts of the country during Dashain.

Dashain being the longest festival in the Nepali calendar, the travel trend among people is gradually increasing. People mainly travel between the seventh day of Dashain — Saptami — till the last day — Purnima. According to Poudel there are some people who do not celebrate Dashain and such people travel from the very first day of Dashain — Ghatasthapana — till Purnima. Sometimes, the travel duration extends up to Tihar.
