KATHMANDU, Nepal-A massive fire that erupted in Thamel, on Thursday night eventually came under control after nine hours, Friday morning. The fire was suddenly broke out at 10 Pm from a Cafe, opposite to Kathmandu Guest House and latter spread to adjoining five houses. Five fire brigades from Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur district were used to douse the fire.
The inferno has engulfed the Thamel’s famous Pilgrims Book Store along with the three houses of Sher Bahadur Shahi and Ajaya Shahi. Over 200 security persons of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal police were deployed to douse the fire. More than two dozens of water tanks were used to put out the fire.
The fire has gutted two hundred millions worth property.
The exact case behind the inferno is yet to know. It is suspected that the fire might have broken out due to explosion of cooking gas cylinder. ‘The fire erupted around 10 pm on Thursday night and engulfed five houses,’ a witnessed Sameer Shrestha told to Nepal Mountain Focus. According to him he had not seen such big fire at business house in Kathmandu earlier.
However, no human causality has been reported so far.
