KATHMANDU, Nepal-The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) is all set to control illegal activities in the trekking industry. TAAN decided to control the illegal operation after it found that illegal operator were providing  low quality trekking packages at the very minimal cost in Everest region.

TAAN complained that the growing number of illegal operators and their activities were posing threat to professional operators in the tourist hub region.

Illegal operators are offering trekking packages at the prices that are around 30 per cent to 40 per cent lower than what a genuine trekking agency charges, according to Ramesh Prasad Dhamala, president of TAAN.

He said a trekking agency charges a minimum of $60 per day omitting the cost of transportation but illegal operators offer such a package at $35 to $40 per day without any quality service in the Everest region.

In the meantime, TAAN is learnt to be preparing to hold an interaction programme on illegal trekking operation and its impact on the overall tourism industry in Nepal.
