(English) Research Award established to commemorates late scientist Bajracharya

KATHMANDU, Nepal– With an aim to promote science and technology among young scientists in Nepal, Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) has established Prof. Dr. Dayananda Bajracharya Research Award.

The award to be granted every year by NAST on the National Science Day to two “Best M.Sc. Dissertations” representing life sciences such as botany, biodiversity, biotechnology, environment, forestry, microbiology, zoology. The National Science Day falls on September 17, 2014.
The research award will carry a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 25,000.

A former vice chancellor of NAST, Bajracharya was associated with Tribhuvan University for nearly 42 years.

At the age of 32, Bajracharya was already a professor of Botany as the youngest person to be in the position in the country.

Also a passionate teacher and active researcher Bajracharya was also known for taking the issue science and technology among the public.

During his eight-year tenure, Bajracharya initiated construction of NAST’s office building at Khumaltar.
