KATHMANDU, Nepal– The European Union has suggested the government to review the existing Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system in the country.
Submitting its final report of the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections observation, EU has also recommended to make political parties’ election expenditure transparent and ensure representation of women and marginalized communities in the CA.
Head of the European Union (EU) observation mission Eva Joly submitted the report to the Chief Election Commissioner Nilkantha Upreti.
The report has lauded the Election Commission (EC) that the latter received people’s trust while accomplishing the November 19 CA polls. It states that polls were conducted in a free and fair manner and the EC demonstrated standards in distribution of election materials.
The report has also highlighted that the polls was completed in a systematic and peaceful manner, and the election code of conduct was enforced.
