KATHMANDU, Nepal–Stating that Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) could not accomplish its duty in good order due to ongoing political interference from major political parties, the Ministry for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) is planning to revive the Department of Tourism 15 years after its dissolution.
Officials at the Ministry said that a separate department will be formed in such a way that does not affect the activities of the Board much and tourism promotion programme currently carried out by the board will be continued in the initiation of the department.
The MoCTCA has already acquired green signal from Ministry of General Administration for the formation of the department.
However, with the government fresh decision, a few tourism entrepreneurs have expressed dissatisfaction saying that many are lured towards the Board since it garners tens of millions of rupees generated through tourism service fees.
