Kukur Tihar observed Saturday
KATHMANDU, Nepal-The second day of Tihar was observed across the nation by Hindus as ‘Kukur Tihar’, by worshiping and offering delicious food to the dogs, Saturday.
Dog which is regarded as faithful friend for mankind is worshipped once a year on the occasion of five day long Tihar Festival as Yamadoot or the messenger of the god of death. Kukur Tihar is also called Narak Chaturdashi.
The dog which is believed to have accompanied Dharmaraj Yudhisthir on his journey to the heaven in the mythological epic ‘Mahabharata’ has a close relationship with human.
Yamapanchak is celebrated as a symbol of philosophy of co-existence of human beings with all other living things existing in nature by worshipping the crow, dog, cow and oxen since ancient times.
