Mahastami observed with gusto
KATHMANDU, Nepal-Hindus throughout the country observed the Mahastami, eighth day of the ten-day long Bada Dasain festival, by worshipping Goddess Durga Bhawani, Saturday.
On the occasion, people performed religious rituals at the Dashain Ghars and armouries and offer worships to the goddess at various shrines by offering sacrifices of different animals.
The devotees also read the Durga Saptashati scriptures on this day. Devotees throng the various goddess shrines in the Kathmandu Valley from early morning Saturday for offering worships and sacrificing goats and ducks.
Special Durgapuja worship and prayer ceremonies were held at the Dasahainghar.
People also worshipped the weapons and vehicles as well as machines. People who do not sacrifice animals offer sacrifices of various vegetables and fruits instead of animals.
