KATHMANDU, Nepal- An audit report by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has said that the Nepali aviation sector has yet to do more for the reform of its aviation sector.

In its report, the United Nations specialized agency for monitoring of international aviation sector, pointed out the reforms that aviation sector of Nepal has to perform stating that Nepal has not even meet the minimum regional standard.

The report was based on the audit performed by the ICAO from July 10 to 16.

According to a source at Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), in the report which is due to summit the ICAO has mentioned about many loopholes in the Nepali aviation sector. “Though Nepal has worked on technological reforms, nothing has been done on the part of laws and rules,” said the source.

The main element that ICAO has focused is lack of permanent government for the organizational reforms. The performance of Nepal is not satisfactory regarding the issues, the source said, adding, “Even small problem in any sector would backward Nepal in the listing”.

ICAO audit evaluates the aviation safety in its member nations according to the related laws and policies, use of advance technology and quality manpower using such technology. The CAAN, however, is expecting to achieve the requirements at its best.
