(English) Nepal bags Intl award for wildlife conservation

KATHMANDU, Nepal–Nepal has bagged an international award for achieving full success in controlling poaching of rare wildlife constantly for two years.

In the CITES conference held in Geneva, Switzerland, CITES Secretary- General John R Scanlon presented the award to Nepal.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Secretariat awarded Nepal with a certificate for achieving success in containing the illegal trade of wild fauna and flora to zero level since 2011.

Among the 180 countries that are party to CITES, Nepal (along with some organizations of other countries) was the only country to be honored with the award, according to Dr Maheshwar Dhakal, ecologist at the Department of National Parkls and Wildlife Protection.
