(English) CIAA raids TIA shops
KATHMANDU, Nepal–The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the anti-graft constitutional body has raided various shops at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), the sole international airport in the country.
Investigating teams from the CIAA raided curio shops, money exchangers and duty-free shops which were set up targeting foreign tourists, over allegations of irregularities, according to Ombandhu Karki, press coordinator of CIAA.
Multiple sources at TIA said teams were spread after they received various complaints of irregularities.
After the investigation the team found that coffee shops were found selling even alcoholic beverages although they are not permitted.
However, this is not the first case that the shops keepers of TIA have been dragged into controversy for their alleged illicit activities.
The anti-graft body is also probing into allegations that shops at TIA have been rented in violation of current laws.
