(English) Rescue for missing mountaineers called off

KATHMANDU, Nepal–A Simrik Air helicopter involved in rescue operation following Friday’s avalanche hovers over the Everest Base Camp on Saturday. Although three Sherpa guides are still missing in the Everest avalanche, rescue was called off Sunday saying it is impossible to trace the missing persons. According to Siddhartha Gurung, pilot of a Simrik Air helicopter that searched for the missing Sherpa guides throughout Saturday, the avalanche-hit area has been covered with 100-meter snow, which makes it almost impossible to trace more missing persons. Photo Courtesy: Simrik Air.
