KATHMANDU, Nepal – The government has launched an online visa service in its bid to provide smart and immediate visa service targeting the foreign nationals.
According to the Department of Immigration, foreigners, who want to apply visa to visit or stay in Nepal should apply for Visa through this application system.
As per the new provision applicants should apply online for all types of Visa except Diplomatic and Official at the Department. For Diplomatic and Official Visa, one has to apply online at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The service is available at the Department of Immigration, Kathmandu and one of the ports of entry of Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu in the initial phase.
From February 1, the department will mandate foreigners seeking to extend their tourist visas to file applications through its website www.online.nepalimmigration.gov.np.
“Once the application is filed, we will inform applicants when to collect their visas or whether additional documents are required,” the department said. “However, people should report to the immigration authority within 15 days of filing the application, as the system does not preserve requests made prior to that period.”
The latest decision comes few days after making it compulsory for foreigners seeking non-tourist visas, except diplomatic and official, to file applications online. Beginning January 20, DoI had made it mandatory for those applying for non-tourist visas, such as business, working, residential and study, among others, to file applications through its portal.
But since the service is only available at the DoI and TIA, travellers arriving from other ports and border points will have to pursue paper-based application process.
“In an attempt to offer better quality and smart services to our esteemed guest, the department has launched Online Application system for its valued customers,” the department said in its press statement.
The department believed that its new move has come in line to its commitment to the environment friendly service since the system consumes less paper.
The government has decided on th service and started it though unofficial on November last year.
The Online system could be log in to www.online.nepalimmigration.
