Science and technology crucial for country's development

KATHMANDU, Nepal-Chairman of the Interim Election Council of Ministers, Khil Raj Regmi said that science and technology is a strong means for the socio-economic development of every country.

Inaugurating the first National Science Day and science exhibition organized in the capital Kathmandu on Tuesday, Chairman Regmi said science and technology was crucial for the development of the country.

Stating that that development of any country would only be possible if social and political environment is compatible Regmi expressed the view that the state would provide support as far as possible for its development.

Chairman Regmi also stressed that attention should be given for utilization of scientific human resources in the country’s socio-economic development by increasing public awareness and people’s participation in the sector.

On the occasion, Minister for Science, Technology and Environment, Umakant Jha, said that dependency on foreign countries has increased due to lack of proper utilization of science and technology.

On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology, Prof. Dr Surendra Raj Kafle, said that the country has not been able to get proper advantage owing to the lack of proper attention in the development of science and technology.
