Kathmandu, Nepal-All the national and international flights were hit hard due to problems on the runway at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu.

According to Mohan Krishna Sapkota, spokesperson at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), all the flights bound to TIA have been diverted after a section of the runway crumbled on Sunday afternoon.

The problem in the runway has also delayed the scheduled flight time of domestic aircrafts.

TIA, country’s only one airport, has been frequently witnessing minor problems in the runway since a couple of months, forcing the flights to be either diverted or delayed.

Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of high officials of TIA including General Manager has been taking place to resolve the problem, spokesperson Sapkota told.
