KATHMANDU, Nepal- The Metropolitan Police Circle Boudha has launched an integrated digital security system around the Boudha area where lies the famous World Heritage Site of Boudhanath Stupa. According to the police circle, it has upgraded the existing traditional security system from Chabahil area to Boudha and Jorpati area to the hi-tech one to cope with the modern ways of crimes adopted by criminals. The police circle has begun the modern security system beginning from Sunday after placing close circuit television cameras in and around the areas with its direct control and connection at its office.
Manoj K.C., Deputy Superintendent of Police at the circle said the installation of modern security system was important due to sensitiveness of the area and to combat with different security threats.
For the some months Buddhists specially Tibetan monks have centered their protests for Free Tibet at Boudha area.
Though Nepal Police have intensified its surveillance at the area with suspicion of any anti-China activities there, it has been failed to control them all.
Of late, a monk set himself on fire to death on February 13, 2013 protesting against the Chinese government’s interference in Tibet.
According to the police record the Boudha area with surrounding Nayapati, Jorpati, Kapan areas are prone to crimes.
The circle in its bid to tackle any illegal activities in the area has also connected all other CCTV connections in the area to its control room.
DSP K.C said that the modern technology not only helps to control crimes but also the CCTV footage can be used as evidence since the eyewitness in crimes has been rare.
