Mexican Gonzalez says he is glad to hold new record

KATHMANDU, Nepal- Veteran Mexican climber David Liano Gonzalez said he is glad to become the first person for climbing the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest from both sides.

‘I am very happy to set this record,’ Gonzalez told during a programme to observe the diamond jubilee of first ascent of Mt. Everest on Wednesday in Kathmandu. Gonzalez, 33, was succeeded to hold the new record at a time Mt. Everest has been witnessing dozens of records by the aspirant climbers this season as well.

According to Ang Tshering Sherpa, ex- president of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Gonzalez reached the peak on 11 May 2013 from the south side and had summit it from North side on May 19. Gonzalez had flown to Kathmandu before making a trip to Tibet for his second successful attempt.

On the occasion, Gonzalez, who summit the Everest for five times, was bestowed with official record certificate from the Guinness World Record. There are at least four paths to the world highest top. However, climbers often opt for Southeast Ridge in the Nepal side and the Northeast Ridge in the Tibetan side of China.

More than five hundred people have reached the summit this season.
