Govt to exempt royalty to mountaineers in Mid and Far-West region

KATHMANDU, Nepal-The government of Nepal is mulling over to exempt royalty to the mountaineers who wish to scale the peaks located at mid and far-western region of Nepal. In a bid to promote the touristic destination of the region, the government is planning to let off royalty for the climbers. ‘The government is planning to exempt the royalty both for national and foreign climbers at those regions,’ an official at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation told Nepal Mountain Focus. For this, the Ministry has already proposed the plan after the comprehensive study of the region. The Council of Ministry would discuss the proposal before endorsing it.

Far-west and mid-western region of Nepal is rich from the touristic point of view. Beside small peaks and natural scenery, the regions house Wild Life Reserve and National Parks. Moreover, the region bears more significance for home stay and religious tourism. ‘The government wants to promote the local tourism destination in national and international level’, the official told, ‘thus it is a new plan to lure the tourists towards local heritage.’

Earlier, on the occasion of Fifth National Tourism Fair’s inauguration day, secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sushil Ghimire had also indicated Ministry’s initiation to exempt royalty for the mountaineers willing to scale the peak at those regions. With an aim to make public the places internationally through the mountaineer, the government brought out such technique. Government hoped that expedition team and mountaineer who visited the region would also visit other places.

Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve, Api and Saipal mountains, Khapatad National Park and  Ghodaghodi Lake are some of the popular tourist destinations of far-western region. Nepal Tourism Board (NTB)had organized Far-Western Regional Tourism Fair at Dhangadi in January and first Mid-Western Region Tourism Fair is going to be held from March 8-10 at Surkhet Road in Nepalgunj.

Shey-Phoksundo Lake, Shey-Phoksundo National Park, Chandannath Temple, Banke National Parks, Karnali Bridge and Black-Buck Conservation Area are some of the major tourism destination of Mid-Western Region.
