MOUNT GENYEN, Cina — "Abbiamo effettuato una missione di ricognizione nel cuore del massiccio del Mount Genyen: quello che abbiamo visto è stato incredibile". Sono le parole di Karl Unterkircher, impegnato nella spedizione alpinistico-esplorativa nella regione del Sichuan cinese.
"Siamo da tre giorni al campo base – racconta l’alpinista -. Ieri abbiamo fatto una gita su una collina (se così si può chiamare) di 5000 metri. Abbiamo camminato per circa 7 chilometri, e da lì abbiamo visto il cuore di questo misterioso e spettacolare gruppo montuoso, che io chiamo il cervello".
"Là in mezzo c’è una sorta di Cervino, formidabile – continua Unterkircher -. Ci attira da morire, non vediamo l’ora di metterci le mani sopra".
Ma è ancora presto. Questa splendida regione cinese non è fatta solo rocce e pareti strapiombi. Ma anche di persone con una cultura che ha radici profonde e con un forte sentimento religioso. Non a caso, le cime del gruppo del Genyen sono ritenute manifestazioni delle divinità buddhiste dagli abitanti dei villaggi del luogo.
"Al momento siamo in trattativa con i monaci – racconta infatti Unterkircher – che hanno fatto alcuni tentativi per dissuaderci dal violare la parete della montagna sacra. Domani parleremo ancora con loro e decideremo l’obiettivo".
La spedizione, ispirata ai valori di esplorazione ed eccellenza di Up Project, è partita dall’italia 13 giorni fa.

Unterchirker get in touch with the sacred heart of Genyen
MOUNT GENYEN, China — "We carried out a recognition walk in the heart of the Mt. Genyen massif: it’s incredible what we saw" said today Karl Unterkircher, leader of the mountaineering expedition in the Chinese region of Sichuan.
"We are three-days far from the base camp – continues the italian climber -. Yesterday we went for a walk on a “hill” of 5000 meters. We walked for approximately 7 kilometers, and from there we could see the heart of this mysterious and spectacular mountain group, that I use to call “the brain”.
In the middle of this massif rises a formidable mountain very similar to our Cervino – continues Unterkircher -. We can’t wait to put our hands on it to climb the wall".
But it’s still too early. This marvellous Chinese region is not made only of cliffs and walls, but also of people who have deep culture and strong religious feelings. Infact, the people living in the near villages believe that the mountains of the group are manifestations of Buddhist divinities.
"At the moment, we are negotiating with the monks – explains Unterkircher – they made some trial to discourage us from climbing the wall of the sacred mountain. Tomorrow we are going to speak again with them and to define our programme”.
