Global warming, climate change making life difficult in Himalayan region: Experts

KATHMANDU, Nepal-Life in the Himalayan region has become very difficult due to the global warning and climate change, experts said. During the concluding ceremony of the international symposium on ‘Poverty and Risks in Himalayan Region’ in Kathmandu, they also pointed out a need of a concrete work plan to reduce the problems and flexibility measures.

They have also expressed their commitment to strengthen the cooperation among the countries in the Himalayan region and bring change in people’s lifestyle.

The conference held jointly by the National Planning Commission and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) concluded that the Himalayan region was witnessing various risks and poverty due to climate change.

Suggestions on post-2015 sustainable development plan were discussed for the development of the Himalayan region.

Ssome 200 representatives from countries in the Himalayan region including Nepal, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar and Pakistan took part the four day conference that kicked off on Sunday.

Programme Director at the ICIMOD, Eklabya Sharma, said the conference was very fruitful to discuss the post-2015 development agenda.
