
KATHMANDU, Nepal– As a part of preparation to prevent any untoward incident in Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), a Full Scale Emergency Drill was performed in the runway on Sunday.
The practice is believed to prevent damage to life and property in the plane in landing position.
Organized by the TIA and Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), at the presence of Tourism Minister Bhim Acharya, a scene was created with a grounded aircraft on fire and full scale emergency drill was performed to rescue the passengers and douse the fire on it.
The emergency drill was performed to rescue the passengers and plane immersed in smoke as result of a fire in landing position, according to a report by national news agency RSS.
General Manager of the TIA, Rishiraj Sharma reportedly said that the Drill was performed to make the TIA mechanism up to date with an emergency plan, working procedure, and necessary equipments.
Staffs of various airlines company, army and police personnel, fire brigade staff, health workers and others took part in the drill.
As per the requirement of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), such drill has to be held every year including a mid-scale and full-scale alternatively.
