Remain supposed to be of Australian trekker found in Himalaya

KATHMANDU, Nepal– The body supposed to be of a missing Australian trekker has been spotted nearby a village in the Annapurna region, one of the world’s best trekking routes, located in north-central Nepal.

The human remains, suspected of being that of 23-year-old Matt Allpress from Western Australia was found in the mountains above Sikles in Kaski district on May 10. Allpress had gone missing in November, last year while he was in a solo 10-day trek in the Annapurna region.

“It is unfortunate that we have to report this news: On 10th May two local Nepali people foraging in the mountains above Sikles, about one hour off the main track, found human remains,” A Facebook page created by the trekker’s family in a bid to find his whereabouts read.
The next day authorities went to the site and reported finding some personal equipments belonging to Allpress, the page titled “Find Matt” read.

Police are currently at the site to conduct further investigation into the case. Nevertheless, the remains are yet to be formally identified as being that of the young trekker. “Matt’s family and close friends ask for respect at this difficult time,” said the page.

Just two ago, Margaret Allpress, mother of Matt and families of two other missing trekkers — Aubrey Caroline Sacco and Zisiomos Souflas — had requested the government to help find the whereabouts of their missing children.

Matt had informed to the family members on November 3 from a lodge in Sikles that he would be out of contact for 9-10 days travelling towards Dudhpokhari and that he would back to catch a flight to Sydney on November 14.
