Foreigners facing hard times getting air tickets in Lukla

KATHMANDU, Nepal–The foreign climbers who made trip to Himalayan nation Nepal aiming to scale the top of the world’s highest peak, Mt Everest, expending hundreds of dollars have faced hard time in the wake deadliest ever Everest avalanche that took place two weeks ago.
After giving up their mission to ascend the peak following the deadliest avalanche that claimed the lives of 13 Sherpa guides, leaving three other still missing, the foreign climbers are now facing difficulty getting air tickets at Lukla Airport to return back to Kathmandu and their other concerned destination.
Due to the large number of foreign climbers who are now ready for returning home after quitting their attempt on Mt Everest, they have facing hard times in the latest days, according to Kathmandu based airlines entrepreneurs.
With the climbers mainly foreigners, the mountain guides as well as assistant who want to return after putting of their mountaineering expedition on Everest, entrepreneurs are facing a surge in the number of passengers seeking air tickets to Kathmandu.
Some of the climbers are reportedly in a tense mood after having to give up their climbing bid on Mt Everest even castigate the airlines staff without understanding the problem when informed of lack of tickets.
The Lukla town, also known for the gateway to Everest is full of these climbers waiting for air tickets to return to Kathmandu. Many of them have been waiting for weeks for air tickets.
“Due to the limited number of flights and also the adverse weather condition, we have not been able to issue tickets to a good number of these foreign tourists,” an official at Simrik airlines in Kathmandu said.
According to him, even though every airlines operating flights to Lukla from Kathmandu has been carrying out extra flights in view of the absolute number of climbers who have returned from the Mt Everest base camp, many mountaineers have been left with lurch due to the lack of air tickets there.
In the meantime, some foreigners have been stranded at Lukla due to the adverse weather condition.
