KATHMANDU, Nepal – The Constituent Assembly elections 2013 has concluded at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the latest updates from the Election Commission, around 70 percent vote has been cast.
National and international observers observing the poll situations say that it was “largely peacefully” as only sporadic incidents of violence were recorded across the country.
The EC said that the election was largely peaceful as only few incidents of violence recorded and around a dozen people have been injured in the inter-party scuffles and disputes.
Meanwhile, television reports said that the villagers of Thawang village in Rolpa of western Nepal have boycotted the elections en masse. The village that was the birthplace of decade-long Maoist insurgency and the main holding area of the Unified CPN (Maoist) has boycotted the elections for their intense dissatisfaction over the post-conflict situation and indifference of the parties. However, the EC is yet to confirm the reports.
Meanwhile, counting of votes in accessible areas will begin from today evening itself.
